To make life better for roadside women retailers of fresh fruits and vegetables, ColdHubs Limited is partnering with EDP – Portugal to deploy 3 new ColdHubs in 3 fresh fruits and vegetables retail markets, in Delta State, South-South Nigeria.
The project which is designed to see to the preservation of up to 3 tons of food per day, in these outdoor food markets will enable the women to increase their income, instead of daily selling off of fresh produce at low prices to avoid spoilage.
The project is tagged ‘Solar-powered walk-in cold rooms for women fresh fruits and vegetables growers and vendors, to store food and increase income’.
“The cold rooms will eliminate food spoilage, enabling women smallholder farmers and retailers, to store and preserve fresh fruits, vegetables and other perishable foods 24/7, extending their shelf life from 2 days to 21 days, increase their income, and have more safe, nutritious food available for local consumption in Nigeria.” A statement on the EDP website reads.
The project will run through 2022 and has already commenced in 2021.
