On February 1, in the Farin Gada Vegetable Market and Aggregation Center, ColdHubs, with kind support from Heifer International, will deploy a massive 100-ton cold room for operation to sustain the mass distribution and supply that goes across the chains of operation.
Farin Gada Jos, Plateau State, is the biggest tomato market across Nigeria. Although other vegetables like cabbage, lettuce, cucumber, carrots, and onions are available in significant quantities, a large section of the market is dominated by red tomatoes, displayed in hundreds of baskets.
The market is a meeting point for farmers within and outside the states, where they converge to sell their produce.
The Coldroom will only serve farmers and suppliers in Farin-Gada; it serves the large scale of farmers and other vegetable markets like building Material Market Jos and other food supply chain actors in the country who wish to buy in large quantities and store and then resell later.
The 100-ton cooling warehouse has other attached facilities, like a crate washing machine and an ice pack shed, that can serve other cooling purposes for the indigent community.
Recall that in May 2023, ColdHubs replicated the same project in Dan-Magaji, Zaria, Kaduna State.
