Corlivics Enwerem is a revolutionary farmer in the countryside of Obibiezena in Imo State, Nigeria. For years, he toiled tirelessly to cultivate the fertile land that had been in his family for generations.
Each season brought its challenges, but none as formidable as the task of storing and preserving his bountiful harvest.
He disclosed that it came to a point where he lost 70 percent of his produce due to a lack of transportation and storage facilities.
In his words, my farm is very far from the market. I have to load these vegetables in the bag or wait for my customers to come to me. Sometimes, it gets spoiled before I can get to the market. At times, I gave up planting vegetables, resulting in cassava and yam.
Corlivic said he was distributing his produce in Relief Market when he stumbled upon a display that changed the trajectory of his farming experience—a state-of-the-art storage facility for agricultural produce.
Intrigued by the promise of preserving his hard-earned harvest in pristine conditions, he approached the hub. There he met Amaka Anyasodo, a knowledgeable sales representative, who explained the advanced technology behind the facility.
Corlivic's mind raced with possibilities; he said he had always faced the dilemma of either selling his produce immediately after harvest, often at lower prices due to market saturation, or trying to store them at home, which often resulted in spoilage and wastage. He disclosed that the storage facility offered him a third option: the ability to store his crops until market conditions were favorable without risk of decay.
After contemplation, he decided to give the storage facility a try. With great anticipation, he transported his harvest crates of bell peppers, cabbage, and tomatoes to the facility. Amaka guided him through the process, ensuring that each crate was properly labeled and stored in its designated section.
As the days turned into weeks, he marveled at the condition of his produce whenever he visited the facility. The crops retained their freshness, maintained their color, and showed no sign of spoilage. He couldn't believe his eyes.
Ever since, Corlivic has spread his success story like wildfire through the farming community in eastern Nigeria.
Other farmers, like him, had always grappled with the issue of storing their harvest effectively. Inspired by his testimony, many of them also began utilizing the storage facility, leading to a transformation among smallholder farmers in the area.
The farmer revealed that his market prices stabilized as he could now bring produce to market when demand was high and supply was limited, allowing him to fetch better prices for the effort put in cultivation.
Till now, Corlivic has still benefited from the storage facility’s offerings. His income grew, allowing him to invest in expanding his farm and experimenting with new crops.
With the innovative storage facility by their side, they could now confidently sow their seed, knowing that their harvest would be preserved to perfection.
