Traders in Kudo Market, Abeokuta in Ogun State have expressed gratitude as Coldhubs unveiled their latest technology in the market.
The new hub which is built in partnership with Heifer International will help eliminate food waste in the market and its environs.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Founder and CEO of Coldhubs, revealed that the utmost goal of the organization is to use technology and new innovations to eradicate food spoilage in developing countries around the world.
Nnaemeka stressed that the essence of the innovation is to increase production and profits of the users.
The founder stated that the organization also trains farmers and traders on how to reduce post-harvest loss and the need to adopt cold-logistics in the distribution of their produce.
"Heifer is one of the oldest NGOS in the world that work around improving the agricultural value chain.
Speaking at the event, the country director of Heifer International, Mr. Rufus Idris, stated that the organization's concern is to help solve problems faced by farmers and poor households in the country.
According to Idris, the ColdHubs innovation will tackle food security and increase productivity in the country.
Adding that farmers will be free to bargain their products without fear of spoilage, he said that the cold room will address major crises faced by farmers and traders.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ogun State, Dr. Angel Oluwayimika Adelaya, commended coldhubs and its partners for establishing such an indispensable investment in the Kuto market and the state.
She noted that the idea is to strengthen agriculture and improve the value chain for perishable products like vegetables, fruits, and other varieties that are produced in the state.
"This has not just sustained and supported farmers and traders; rather, it has created more jobs for farmers and traders and served as a hope for prospective farmers,"Dr. Angel said.
One of the leaders of the trader’s union, Mr.Owoyemi Steven, acknowledged ColdHubs and Heifer International for their support in putting up such innovation.
“This is the first time we are experiencing such a wonderful invention that helps to keep our edibles fresh”.
