ColdHubs’s 2020 in Numbers

ColdHubs is currently serving 5,250 farmers, retailers, and wholesalers using it's 54 installed cold rooms in 32 farms, aggregation centers, and markets within the Southern and Northern Regions of Nigeria.

• In 2020, the 54 operational ColdHubs saved 42,024 tons of food from spoilage.

• It increased the household income of 5,240 small farmers, retailers, and wholesalers by 50%, an additional US$60 to the previous US$60 earned, making their monthly income a total of US$120, simply by eliminating the previous 50% food loss.

• It created 66 new jobs for women, by recruiting and training them to work as Hub Operators and Market Managers in markets and farm clusters.

• ColdHubs increased the quality of 42,042 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables, ensuring food safety by reducing exposure to harsh direct sunlight, chemical, bacterial or parasitic and mycotoxin contamination, thus eliminating rapid rotting, making this safe, nutritious food available for the consumption of Nigerians.

• In 2020, the 54 operational ColdHubs saved an estimated 1,040,688 kg of CO2. The daily cooldown of goods and the continuous maintenance of the cold room temperature requires approximately 20 liters of Diesel per day. The solar supply of the cold room avoids a CO2 emission of about 52.8 kg CO2 per day based on 2.64 kg CO2 emission per liter Diesel.
