ColdHubs New Innovation: Introducing Ice Point As Cooling Solution

As one of the leading cold chain industries in Africa, using sustainable, clean energy, ColdHubs keeps unveiling solutions that will avert the challenges of food safety, public health, product quality, economic stability, and trade opportunities in Africa.

For this reason, by October, ColdHubs will unveil a new cold room and ice point in International Market, Abakaliki, in Ebonyi State, south-eastern Nigeria.

The ColdHubs Team will join industry leaders, development partners, stakeholders, and farmers across the region to launch and commission the cooling services for the economic benefit of the state.

Ebonyi State in southern Nigeria is known for its agricultural feat and is a leading producer of rice, yam, potatoes, maize, beans, and other notable food basket markets in Nigeria. Today, smallholder farmers in the state have extended to vegetable cultivation and advanced farming, as vegetable crops are increasingly being acknowledged as a prerequisite for food sustainability, nutrition, and security.

To maintain a high production value chain for vegetables fresh from the farm, cooling services will guarantee successful exports in the local and international markets and boost the agricultural input of the country. Nevertheless, the role of the ice point cannot be downplayed. Beyond simply cooling beverages, ice points have a significant economic impact that extends to agriculture, food preservation, tourism, and even healthcare.

Ice points are instrumental in preserving and transporting perishable goods such as fruits, vegetables, and seafood. By maintaining a low temperature, they extend the shelf life of these products, allowing farmers and fishermen to reach distant markets and maximize their profits. This, in turn, leads to increased revenues and employment opportunities in the state.

Recall that ColdHubs launched two more 3-ton cold room facilities in Bodija Market, Ibadan, and Aje Market, Oshogbo, Osun State, Nigeria, in August. The activation of these hubs has reduced waste within this region and benefited farmers and retailers by helping them make more profits along the fruit and vegetable supply chain.
