ColdHubs has commenced the installation of a mega-coldroom innovation in Zaria Kaduna State, in the northern part of Nigeria.
The CEO and founder of ColdHubs, Nnaemeka Ikeagwuonu, revealed that the new generation cold room has the capacity to store 5000 crates of fresh fruits and vegetables every day, unlike the 3 ton and 10 ton cold rooms that store just 150 and 500 crates, respectively.
He highlighted the high demand and the need to preserve seasonal produce, especially fruits, in an eco-friendly way that can ensure that the health and nutritional benefits of those foods remain the same.
ColdHubs is using its new innovation to minimize the pace at which people consume heavily processed food, increase the availability of seasonal food at all times, and improve agricultural productivity and income for national growth and development.
"The 100-ton cold room will be of great use and importance to farmers who cultivate fruits, vegetables, and other perishables in large-scale clusters," he stated.
Nnaemeka noted that the hubs can also serve as aggregation centers or collection points for farmers and traders that grow and sell food in large quantities to store before proper distribution.
"Excess energy stored from the solar installation will be used to power irrigation for plants and crops in farmlands, as well as a washing line for fresh produce situated around the hub location."
The CEO disclosed that similar concepts will be replicated in the Farin gada Market and Building Materials, both located in Jos, Nigeria.
He added that the company has identified over 38 aggregation centers and seasonal clusters for 100 tons Cold room across Nigeria.
