ColdHubs Limited have been announced one of the winners of the 2020 Global Maker Challenge, in what will be a fruitful year for Nigerian startup,
With several companies entering for the challenge globally, ColdHubs Limited was named among the four winners of the challenge organized by United Arab Emirates based Mohammed bin Rashid Initiative for Global Prosperity.
The four Global Maker Challenge winners along with eight runners-up were announced on September 6, 2020 at the first ever Virtual Award Ceremony of the organization out of the United Arab Emirates.
According to the official website of Mohammed bin Rashid Initiative for Global Prosperity, Simbi Foundation, ColdHubs, POKET, and Plastics for Change, were selected as the four Global Maker Challenge winners following careful evaluation led by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s SOLVE initiative (MIT SOLVE) and an esteemed jury of 47 globally renowned subject matter and innovation experts.
Simbi Foundation won in Innovation for Peace and Justice category; ColdHubs Limited won in Sustainable and Healthy Food for All category; POKET won in Innovation for Inclusive Trade category while Plastics for Change won in the Climate Change category.
With ColdHubs Limited providing solar-powered walk-in cold storage for perishable foods produced by rural farmers in developing countries, the Nigerian startup is tackling issues faced by fast-growing urban populations in accessing healthy and sustainable food.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Badr Al-Olama, Head of the Organising Committee for the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS) said: “We continue to be inspired by our patron, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s humanitarian journey and drive for innovation to positively impact not only the UAE, but also the region and the world. Just like us, our humanitarian start-ups too believe that access to innovation paves the way to building prosperity. Today, we celebrate the social entrepreneurs that leverage innovation for work that transcends borders.

The first runners-up are ID2020, Stixfresh, Agricycle Global, and AlgiKnit, while Aiyin, Nilus, Fantine and Aquacycl are the second runners-up.
