Nigerian based company ColdHubs Limited has emerged second at the Clim@ competition 2020 earlier in June.

Clim@ (Compete For a Sustainable Future) 2020 had more than 200 applications from 60 countries for the competition that is aimed at “innovative business ideas that have the power to fight climate change and protect our environment across four broad themes: renewable energy, energy efficiency, circular economy solutions, and improved resource management.” according to a message on the official website.

The message further reads that “With a focus in 2020 on market-ready ideas from advanced start-ups and established businesses, the high level of interest is particularly exciting. The reputation and reach of the Green for Growth Fund (GGF) is clearly evident in the applications, with more than half of all entrants from GGF target markets, also demonstrating the great potential for green entrepreneurship in those regions”

ColdHubs Limited second place feat was announced at a virtual conference held on June 2, 2020 because of a ban on both local and international travels as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“And that's a wrap of #GGFclimat competition 2020. A huge congrats to the finalists and especially the winners! In 5th place, Biodiesel Misr, 4th, Manyfolds, 3rd @wholesurplus, 2nd @Coldhubs and in 1st place, Beyond Leather! Well done to all and a big thank you to our partners!” @ggf_climat tweeted.

ColdHubs achieved the feat by increasing the shelf lives of perishable food like fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and dairy products from 2 to more than 20 days with 100% solar powered walk-in cold storage facilities scattered across Nigeria.

ColdHubs Limited responded with a tweet, saying “We are grateful to the team and other participants. Thank you so much. We'll keep making the world a better place by saving food with clean energy”

The victory will go a long way in consolidating the work ColdHubs Limited is doing across Nigeria especially as they work towards pushing into other African countries.
