ColdHubs has added five more hubs to its list of 100% solar powered cold rooms across the country.
“Five new hubs were recently commissioned in three locations and the response has been amazing”, according to Mr. Bright Igbokwe, the Chief Operations Officer COO of the company.
The COO said, “There are two double hubs in two different locations and a single one in another location. Thanks to our donors, these hubs have been completed in record time and commissioned for use”
According to him the two double hubs located at Fruit Market Port Harcourt Rivers State and Dan Magaji Zaria, Kaduna State were sponsored by the USAID Feed the Future Partnering for Innovation, while the single hub at Jang Market Farin Lamba Jos Plateau State, is sponsored by the World Food Program.
The five new hubs bring the number of operational hubs to 27, with 27 others expected to be completed to bring the number up to 54 before the end of 2020.
“Covid-19 pandemic had a great negative impact on our schedule, but our technical team is working hard to see we meet up with this number”, Mr. Igbokwe said.
ColdHubs Limited has been recognized globally for their works in using 100% solar powered walk-in cold storage room to preserve the shelf lives of fruits and vegetables from 2 to more than 20 days.
The technology has been spotted as the future for the preservation of fruits and vegetables as well as reduction of postharvest losses in Africa where in most cases, grid power is neither reliable or available.
