Strengthening the infrastructure behind better post-harvest outcomes in Ghana.
The Shell Foundation, through its Startup Discovery School Initiative, visited ColdHubs’ Juapong facility in Ghana to inspect the cold storage infrastructure it sponsored earlier this year. Bringing the partnership from investment to the point of practical implementation.
ColdHubs CEO, Mr. Nnaemeka Ikegwuonu, alongside the ColdHubs Ghana team and representatives of Complete Farmer, received the delegation and led a tour of the facility.
The engagement provided an opportunity to assess the infrastructure on the ground, observe its operations and engage with the teams responsible for its deployment and use.
For post-harvest management, infrastructure matters. Fresh produce does not lose value only because of what happens during production; inadequate temperature management, storage and handling after harvest can accelerate deterioration and constrain how long produce remains marketable.
The Juapong ColdHub addresses a critical part of this chain by providing access to cold storage closer to agricultural activity. This gives farmers, traders and other food-system actors an infrastructure-based option for protecting produce quality beyond harvest and managing the time between production and sale.
The visit also highlights a broader principle in building resilient food systems: effective post-harvest management requires more than producing more food. It requires the infrastructure and systems to preserve its value after it is harvested.
As ColdHubs continues to expand its cold-chain network across Africa, partnerships that enable the deployment of practical, sustainable storage infrastructure remain central to closing post-harvest gaps and strengthening agricultural value chains.
The goal is not simply to expand cold storage. It is to expand the capacity of food systems to preserve what farmers produce.
From partnership to infrastructure. From infrastructure to impact.
